Firestone Tires
LATEST NEWS
Firestone/Bridgestone and Ford continue to point the guilty finger at each other in terms of product liability, and it may take a long time for the courts and legislators to assign the blame. The auto lobby has successfully hindered federal action on many safety issues for the past 27 years. This will likely end soon as Congressional hearings continue to make headlines in the coming weeks. Consumer complaints, recent advisories and recall updates can be found at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration web site by clicking, or the consumer group, Public Citizen .
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
Here are some incontrovertible facts that you should be aware of: SUVs are involved in a disproportionate number of serious rollerover accidents and crashes. Last year, rollovers were a factor in nearly 30 percent of the highway fatalities. And a New York Times analysis concluded that a rollover was the first thing that went wrong in more than 38 percent of those deaths. So far, defective Firestone/Bridgestone tires have been directly linked to at least 88 deaths since 1992 and an undetermined number of accidents. Many have resulted in personal injury.
